NTSB retrieves missing door plug from Alaska Airlines flight 1282
Plane crash near Shaktool kills bush pilot and passenger
Investigation ongoing into the cause of the accident
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials have retrieved the missing door plug from Alaska Airlines flight 1282, which crashed near Shaktoolik, Alaska, on June 16, 2023. The door plug, which is used to seal the door of the aircraft, was found in the wreckage of the plane.
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash. The agency has said that it is too early to determine what caused the plane to go down, but investigators are looking at all possible factors, including weather, mechanical failure, and pilot error.
The plane was a Cessna 180H, which is a single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft. The plane was being flown by Jim Tweto, a well-known bush pilot who was the star of the early 2010s reality TV show "Flying Wild Alaska." Tweto and his passenger, 45-year-old William Bell, were killed in the crash.
The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report on the crash within the next few weeks. The agency's final report on the crash is expected to be released within a year.
