Red Sox's Alex Cora Clarifies Masataka Yoshida's Role
Yoshida Set to Play Left Field and Bat Leadoff
Cora: "He's a Really Good Hitter"
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has clarified the role of newly acquired outfielder Masataka Yoshida, confirming that the Japanese star will play left field and bat leadoff in the team's batting order.
In a recent press conference, Cora praised Yoshida's offensive abilities, stating, "He's a really good hitter. He can hit for average, power, and he's got a good eye at the plate."
Yoshida, who signed a five-year, $90 million contract with the Red Sox in December, is a two-time Japan Series MVP and a three-time batting champion in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Cora believes Yoshida's left-handed bat and ability to get on base will be a valuable asset to the Red Sox lineup, which already features right-handed hitters Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez.
The Red Sox are expected to open the regular season on March 30 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park.
